News and Announcements

Both the Varsity and JV teams participated in the Chicago Interscholastic Showcase tournament in Darien last weekend. JV closed out York 3-1 with an empty netter to win the final period and advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-final game, they closed a 6-1 gap against Providence down to 6-5 before losing 8-5 on 2 empty net goals in the last minute.

Varsity took 4.5 points against Providence with a dominating 7-3 win in the final preliminary round game to advance to the semi-finals against Glenbrook North. They escaped the semi-finals with a 5-4 win to make the championship game before falling to New Trier Green in the finals.

A wild start to the 2016-17 CCHL League play began this Saturday for the Redwings against St. Rita. Both games required overtime to determine a winner.

The JV team lead off the day with a 3-2 overtime victory in an incredibly entertaining back and forth match-up.

The Varsity Redwings game was a heart-stopper. After going down 3-2 with just over 30 seconds left in the 3rd period, the Redwings came back and tied it up with a mad scramble in front of the net. The game tying goal entered the net with just over one-tenth of a second left on the clock. The Redwings were able to close out the victory in overtime with a final score of 4-3.

CCHL play continues this week with the Varsity team taking on Fenwick at Ridgeland Commons Friday night. Both the JV and Varsity teams will take on Brother Rice in back to back games next Saturday, 10/8.

Exciting start to the season for the Redwings!

The Varsity Redwings faced a tough matchup in their opening game Sunday at Loyola. The Redwings opened up the scoring with a power play goal early in the first period. After a tough bounce in front of the net that tied the game 1-1 where it remained through the first period, the Redwings were able to open up a 3-1 lead in the second period. Loyola pressed hard but the Redwings were able to answer Loyola’s attack, eventually holding on for a 4-3 victory in their season opener.

The JV Redwings drew a tough first matchup against a veteran Waubonsie team at the Pow Wow tournament this weekend. They followed with a low scoring goalie battle against Highland Park where they fell just short to drop their second game of the tournament. The Redwings found some offense in the last two games of the tournament however; closing out the last two games with 9-2 and 7-1 victories to finish the tournament with a 2-2 record.

Check back often for updates and make sure to come out and support your Redwings this season.
